In a study abroad program such as this one, a student may spend much of their time with the host family. The time the student spends with
the host family is an opportunity to
acquire the culture and language in the most natural of settings, and a very low-anxiety environment. For bilingual teachers especially, this is a priceless opportunity to learn more about the Mexican culture, traditions and customs, and relate that information to the students they have in their own classroom.
All families that work with the promoted schools enjoy having foreign students in their
homes, and they often value the opportunity as much as the students do.
Most families live within 5-15 minutes walking distance to the schools. Students will be
placed (prior to their arrival) as closely to their room requests as possible, taking into account the following factors:
shared (with a student of choice or one assigned by the school) or private room,
smoker or non-smoker,
dietary habits (vegetarian, etc),
allergies, etc.
The host families provide three (3) meals a day: breakfast (desayuno), lunch (comida),
and dinner (cena). On the days of an excursion, students can request a sack lunch to take with them. The sack lunch consists of a sandwich or torta, a fruit and a drink.
However, it is possible to book only 1 or 2 meals (breakfast and/or lunch).
The accommodations the host families provide must include a bed, a desk or table at
which to study, and ample lighting. The family will provide bath soap, a clean towel two (2) times a week and clean sheets, changed once a week.
Once a student arrives with their host family, they will be integrated as a member of the family and included in family activities.
The prices per day can vary depending on housing plan and school, as follows:
