Spanish in Cuernavaca - Mexico
Cost of things

Here is a "Mexico Price Index. Its purpose is  to give an indication of what things cost in Cuernavaca; so that you can plan ahead on the main things you will or may need to buy on your travels in Cuernavaca.
 

CD's

A Pop Chart CD (non import) can cost as little as EUR12.30 /US$12.00 / CHF18.00 . Imported CDs and CDs of groups that are lesser known, and classical music can cost up to  EUR 26.00/US$25.50/CHF38.00.
 

Newspapers / Magazines

Local newspaper are not really expensive. Prices are varying between EUR 0.25-1.02 / US$0.3-1 / CHF 0.45-1.50. Foreign Magazines are almost same costs as in Europe or in the US. The Mexican magazine prices can vary from EUR 1.55-3.60 / US$ 1.5-3.5 / CHF 2.25-5.00
 

Cigarettes

A Pack of 20 Cigarettes (Marlboro) costs about EUR 1.2 / US$1.15 / CHF 1.75

Film

A roll of 35mm film with 36 exposures (Kodak or Fuji film) costs about EUR7.00 / US$6.75 / CHF10.00. APS (Advanced Photo System) film, with 20 exposures (e.g.  Kodak or Fuji film) currently costs about EUR 5.70 / US$5.40 / CHF7.60

Drinks (in Bar / Restaurant)

Alcoholic drinks in Mexican restaurants will be around 30%-50% less of the cost of the same drink than in Europe, and they will generally put in about 3 times as much alcohol in the drink!. As an indication:

  • Rum and coke will cost no more than about EUR2.35 / US$2.25 / CHF 3.50
  • Beer's price can be expensive in some areas in particular on the coast. Generally, the price of a beer is around EUR 2.60 / US$2.50 / CHF 3.70.
     

Hotel

Depending on where you are, and at what time of year, hotel prices with vary enormously.  However, the full range is available, as follows:

  • Economy at around EUR15.30 / US$15.00 /CHF22.50 or less per night (shared bathroom),
  • Luxury rooms in  first-class hotels at around EUR 108 / US$105 / CHF180 a night.
  • Ultra-exclusive hotels can cost around EUR 240-470 / US$225-$450 / CHF345-700 a night.

In Mexico you pay for the ROOM, not per person, unless it's an "all-inclusive" package which would supply all your drinks (usually including alcohol) and 3 meals a day.
 

Taxi

Depending on where you stay, but generally the taxi prices are cheaper than the ones in Europa or in the US. For instance, in Cuernavaca, prices are varying between EUR 1.7-3.7 / US$ 1.6-3.5 / CHF 2.50 - CHF 5.00. In Mexico City the prices are almost 50-80% higher.

Restaurant

Prices based on a mid-range restaurant in a city or tourist location. Smaller towns will generally cost about 20-25% less:

  • Breakfast: A cooked breakfast, including coffee and fresh fruit juice will cost around 50 Pesos per person (EUR5.90 / US$5.70 / CHF8.00).
  • Lunch: An ample lunch will cost  around 100 Pesos per person, including 1 alcoholic drink  (EUR11.40 / US$11.25 / CHF17.00)
  • Dinner: A good dinner, will cost around 150 Pesos (EUR17.50 / US$17.25 / CHF27.00) per person, including a couple of alcoholic drinks.
