Mexico's population has grown rapidly over the last 50 years, from around 25 million in 1950 to nearly 100 million
today. Population is not evenly spread. Central states are heavily populated and northern states are thinly populated. The cities with the largest population are Mexico City, Monterrey, Guadalajara and Puebla. Mexico City is flabbergasting, it is like a small country in a city.
Today, many people have migrated to the cities. This is where the majority of Mexicans
now live and work. Most work in commerce, services and manufacturing.
Mexico is blessed with many charming historic, Spanish-built towns full of centuries-old
carved-stone architecture, plazas with splashing fountains and often lively modern cultural and entertainment scenes. Many of their fine old court yarded mansions are now charming hotels.
Amongst other outstanding colonial cities include Zacatecas, San Miguel de Allende
home to many artists and expatriates, Guanajuato with a lot of students, Puebla with its churches, Taxco the silver town, Cuernavava famed for its language schools.
