Mexico City's main square, officially named Plaza de la Constitucion but known to everybody simply as the Zocalo, is an ideal place to begin a
city tour. The Zocalo is home to the NationalPalace (Palacio Nacional) on the east, and the Metropolitan Cathedral on the north, among other landmark buildings.
The Mexico CityMuseum, which documents the history of the city since pre-Columbian
times, is housed in a colonial masterpiece on Pino Suarez Street. A fun way of getting around the Centro Historico is riding one of the green-and-yellow bicycle-pulled rickshaw
-type taxis that are parked on the north side of the Zocalo in front of the cathedral.
