Sport fishing is especially popular off the Pacific coast and in the Gulf of California. Snorkeling and diving
is wonderful in Mexico, particularly at Caribbean coast resorts like Isla Mujeres, Playa del Carmen, Cozumel, Punta Allen and Banco Chinchorro. On the Pacific coast, try Puerto Vallarta, Zihuatanejo, Acapulco and Huatulco.
Mexico is blessed with almost 6,000 miles of coastline, with an incredible variety of
underwater landscapes. With the exception of the relatively cold waters along the Pacific coast of Baja California, Mexican waters are temperate to tropical, creating warm and
inviting surroundings for exploring marine flora and fauna and underwater coral structures.
The surprising thing is that there are diving areas not only along the coast, but in many
inland waters as well, and the numerous cenotes, or underground pools, on the Yucatan Peninsula. All these provide unforgettable diving experiences.
All of Mexico's major resort areas have good diving services (scuba equipment,
compressors, instructors and guides). If you want to explore areas off the beaten track, come prepared with your own gear.
